President dismisses Yakub Memon’s mercy petition

yakub memonNew Delhi: Within hours of Supreme Court rejecting today the petition of Yakub Memon, on the issue of his death warrrant, the President of India also dismissed his mercy petition tonight.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh earlier met President Pranab Mukherjee and conveyed the Government stand that memon’s mercy plea should be rejected.

Memon is the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts convict. The apex court order today said there was no “legal fallacy” in the issuance of death warrant by the TADA court in Mumbai on April 30 scheduling Yakub’s execution in Nagpur’s central jail on Thursday-his 53rd birthday.
