Jabalpur: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Engineer of CPWD(Civil), IIITDM Project at Jabalpur in the central Indian State of Madhya Pradesh for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 200,000.
A case was registered under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on a complaint received from a representative of Solan (Himachal Pradesh) based private firm against the Assistant Engineer of CPWD(Civil), IIITDM Project at Jabalpur. It was alleged that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs. 500,000 but following negotiations reduced the demand to Rs. 450,000 for processing & recommending the advance claim of Rs.2.7 million in the on-going work order of road work at Jabalpur.
On the complainant’s request, the public servant agreed to accept a bribe of Rs.200,000 in the first installment and the remaining amount within the next 2 or 3 days.
CBI laid a trap and arrested the accused while accepting the first installment of bribe. Searches were conducted at the office and residence of the accused public servant.
The arrested accused was produced in the Designated Court at Jabalpur.
