cbiNew Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Manager of the Vijayawada main branch of IDBI Bank in Andhra Pradesh for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 100,000.

A case was registered on a complaint against the IDBI Manager. The complainant had purchased a cold storage in 2011, along with liabilities of Term Loan of Rs. 3,50,00,000/- from IDBI Bank, Main Branch at Viajayawada. In December 2013, the Bank Authorities declared the loan of Rs. 3,50,00,000/- as Non Performing Asset (N.P.A.) on account of failure on the part of the complainant to repay the loan instalments due to loss in business. The Bank Authorities issued a demand notice under SARFAESI Act for taking possession of the properties of the complainant. The complainant paid an amount of Rs. 1,15,00,000/- during the period from January, 2015 to June, 2015 to the Bank, however, the IDBI Bank served a possession notice to the complainant. The complainant met CGM, IDBI Bank at Bangalore with a request to stop the SARFAESI proceedings and as instructed, he deposited an amount of Rs. 19,00,000/- on 9 June 2015 in his loan account through RTGS. The complainant further alleged that the accused Manager, IDBI Bank, Main Branch, Vijayawada, who was looking after the initiation of possession proceedings, contacted the complainant and demanded a bribe of Rs. 5,00,000/- to stop the further proceedings. When the complainant expressed his inability to pay the bribe of Rs. 5,00,000/-, the accused instructed him to pay the bribe in five instalments and directed him to pay Rs. 1,00,000 as first instalment. CBI laid a trap and the Manager was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs.1,00,000 from the complainant.

The arrested accused was produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam and remanded to Judicial Custody till 26 June.
