New Delhi:President of India Pranab Mukherjee has strongly condemned the terror attack on army personnel in Chandel district of Manipur on 4 June  2015.

In his message to General Dalbir Singh, Chief of the Army Staff, the President has said “I am extremely sad to learn about the terror attack of yesterday in which a number of army personnel lost their lives and several were injured in Manipur’s Chandel district.

Such random attacks on security forces performing their duty must be put down with a firm hand. I call upon all authorities concerned to work in close concert to bring the perpetrators of this heinous attack to justice and to maintain law and order in the state of Manipur.

In this moment of grief, I offer my most profound condolences to the grieving families of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. I am sure all possible aid is being provided to the bereaved families and medical assistance to the injured.

Please convey my condolences to the families of the deceased personnel. I pray to the Almighty to give them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. I also wish speedy recovery to the injured persons”.

Newsroom24x7 also pays homage to the armymen of 6 Dogra Regiment, who were killed in a terrorist attack in a Manipur district last week by reproducing a poem by Divya Gopakumar. This poem, continuously being shared by internet users on social networking sites, is a salute to the martyr soldiers. (The poem titled “Nobel 20 SOULS…’ is obviously based on initial reports  that said 20 armymen have been killed)

By Divya Gopakumar

Nobel 20 SOULS…

20 Souls they were
Planning their departure from their beloved motherland,
leaving their burned bodies behind
20 Souls they were,
Who took an oath to protect their motherland through their selfless service,
As they prepared their departure they took a glance at their bodies
They were burned, torn and unrecognizable
The smell of burning human flesh was sickening, “let’s depart soon”, they said,
“Had it been for burning flesh of animals or cows it would have been of much interest to Media at least”
As they went up the sky they glanced down, the life was normal and peaceful in the country they left behind,
All they could hear in the TV sets were news of mangoes and yoga
All they could see in the TV screens were the smiling face of the
guard at the mango orchard
All they could read in the social media were scandals, IIT, Periyar and Maggie,
Nameless they are because they aren’t the victims of Uber Kissing Scandals
Nameless they are because they aren’t the drivers who accompanied the Khan
Nameless they are because they aren’t the victims of human rights violations
Nameless they are because they are the MEN IN UNIFORM…
