New Delhi: CBI has booked retired IAS officer Jivtesh Singh Maini, his son Gurpreetesh Singh Maini and a few other members of his family for involvement in the Yara-Kribhco scam.
The IAS officer and his family members have been accused of conspiracy and face the charge that they had taken bribe of USD one million to pave the way for striking a joint venture between Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO) and Yara – a Norwegian fertiliser company – in 2007. Reports say that the bribe money has been parked in some offshore account.
The CBI has booked JS Maini for an alleged offence committed when he was Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Department of Fertilizers, Government of India. Among others booked in this case are Maini’s two sons Gurpreetesh Singh Maini and TS Maini.
Maini, was a 1974 batch IAS officer from the Punjab Cadre. He held a few important posts, including the post of Chairman Highways Authority of India in the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways. Later he became Secretary Public Enterprises Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprise (BRPSE) in the Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises.
