New Delhi: The Government of India has approved the recommendations on Full Mobile Number Portability (MNP) presented by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on November 3, 2014 and decided to extend the date of implementation of the full MNP in the networks by two months.
The TRAI recommendations were to be implemented within a period of 6 months.
Steps taken for implementation of Full MNP
TRAI issued a regulation on February 25 this year for full MNP. This regulation prescribes the elaborate process and steps to be taken for implementation of Full MNP in actual scenario when the number is to be ported. Detailed discussions were held with stakeholders to address various technical complexities linked with different networks.
Different operators have already integrated the hardware and software with their system for Full MNP. Internal testing by these operators is now in the advanced stage. The detailed final testing is schedule to commence shortly and is likely to be completed within two months for most of the operators.
