New Delhi: The Vasant Kunj North Police Station in New Delhi South District today registered a complaint of assault and illegal restraint against unidentified assailants. A youth injured in this incident has been admitted in the ICU and his condition is said to be critical.
The Vasant Kunj North Police Station here has registered an FIR against unidentified assailants under Sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 34 (When a criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention), and 341 (wrongful restraint).
The complaianant Akhilesh Yadav, resident of Jangpura here, has stated that on April 10, he along with his friends Manik Kapoor and Avinash Som, had gone to Qutub Institutional Area at about 11 pm to have tea at the Ram Babu Dhaba (roadside tea shop). A group of six, including two girls, was occupying the benches at the dhaba. According to Akhilesh, as they were having tea and talking to each other, a boy from the other group already seated there came up to them and after entering into an argument started abusing them. When they objected, his other friends, including the girls, joined him and started abusing. Soon they turned violent and during the scuffle one of them held Avinash and another person from this gang took out a steel rod from his car and hit Manik and Avinash with it. They also hurled stones at Manik.
Akhilesh has stated in his complaint that all of them were badly injured in this incident. Avinash even sustained head injuries and became unconscious. By the time they could reach the PCR near the Dhaba to seek help, all the assailants had fled from the spot.
Avinash was rushed to Holy Angel Hospital and later to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. As the doctor was busy with another patient at the AIIMS Trauma Center, they took Avinash to MAX Hospital for urgent medical attention. His parents were informed and later his family members took him to Kailash Hospital at Meerut, where he is in the I.C.U. and his conditions is said to be critical.
What sparked the violence
Postscript: What needs to be thoroughly investigated by the Police in this case is what had sparked the violence. Question arises whether or not it was eve teasing that led to the violent retaliation by those accused of assault.
