India places order for 36 French Rafale fighter jets

Jamsheed Rizwani

French RafaleParis: France gets the order for 36 RAFALE – multi role combat aircraft ready to fly –  as the first part of the mega contract for the Indian Air Force….as Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced during the joint press conference with the French President François Hollande today.

The decision on Rafale jets was sealed after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande.

Discussions will continue for the transfer of technology which would permit India to build the aircraft on its own soil.. The French have their own conditions for such transfer of technology which India cannot accept, but things could evolve with the discussions.

The French have not buckled to the pressure of the Indians and the French manufacturer – Dassault – that also has a say in the matter.

As Modi tries to win over hesitant French manufacturers to MAKE IN INDIA, other civilian contracts could also be signed during his first visit to France.
