CBI arrests Chief Commissioner of Income Tax and an Income Tax officer in a bribery case
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation today arrested PK Sharma, the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax at Jodhpur and his junior, Shailendra Bhandari, who is an Income Tax Officer, along with a resident of Paota inJodhpur in a bribery case of Rs.15 lakhs.
It is alleged that the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax – Jodhpur and others demanded a bribe of Rs. 23,000,00 from a complainant for settling the income tax assessment for the year 2012-13 of his company. After registration of the case by the, CBI on March 31 under Section 120 B of IPC read with section 7 and 13(2) read with 13 (1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax and others on a complaint, a trap was laid and a person was caught red handed while having accepted bribe of Rs.15,00,000 from the complainant on directions of the Income Tax Officer and Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Jodhpur. After the seizure of the bribe amount of Rs.15,00,000 and subsequent investigation, the Income Tax Officer and the Commissioner of Income Tax were arrested.
Searches were conducted at the official and residential premises of the accused persons at Jodhpur and Ajmer which led to recovery of incriminating documents. All the three accused were produced today before the Special Judge, Jodhpur and remanded to three days police custody.
