CBI arrests an Income Tax Officer for accepting Rs. 75000 as bribe
Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Income Tax Officer (ITO) in Mumbai for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 75,000 from a Complainant.
The complainant alleged that the accused ITO post at Range 31(1)(2) in Mumbai had demanded a bribe to reduce his assessment of Income Tax from Rs. 4 lakh to Rs.55000. CBI registered a case against him under sections 7 & 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act and laid a trap. The accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the Complainant. Searches have been conducted at the residential premises of the accused in Navi Mumbai.
