New Delhi: President of India Pranab Mukherjee conferred the Bharat Ratna, country’s highest civilian honour, on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee here this evening. In a special gesture, the President conferred the Award at a simple ceremony held at Vajpayee’s residence.

Mohd. Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President APJ Abdul Kalam, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, senior members of the Cabinet; several Chief Ministers, leaders of political parties, members of Vajpayee’s family and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
