Surat (Gujarat): The curtain has come down on the controversy generated by the famous personalized suit Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore with his name written all over on Republic Day–this brought him under spotlight and there was plenty of media criticism. It also turned him into a sartorial talking point and a male style icon at a time when he was hosting US President Barack Obama during his India visit.
A businessman from Surat, Gujarat, Ramesh Kumar Bhikabhai Virani has come forward and revealed before the media that it was his son, who had presented the suit to Modi when he went to invite him for his wedding on January 26. He threw light on the longstanding relationhip between his family and Modi and said that his son Sumit treats Modi as a grandfather. Since the US President was in India for the Republic Day, it was not possible for the Prime Minister to attend his son’s wedding on January 26 but he was certainly gracious to bless him that day by wearing the suit that had been gifted to him as a gesture of love and affection, said Virani.
Viral Chowksi, a Gujarati NRI Wednesday bid Rs 1.11 crore for this monogrammed suit at an auction.
