New Delhi, Feb. 4: Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami, whose name surfaced for interfering in the Saradha scam probe has been sacked and in his place LC Goyal, IAS (KL:79), Secretary department of Rural Development, has been appointed as the new Home Secretary for a period of two years.

The decision to remove Anil Goswami came late on Wednesday night.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it is said, took a very serious note of the role played by Mr. Goswami in trying to prevent the arrest of senior Congress leader Matang Sinh’s by the CBI in connection with the Saradha scam case. After arresting Mr. sinh, the CBI informed the PMO on Tuesday about attempts by Mr. Goswami to stall his arrest.

The Central Government issued an order late on Wednesday to curtail the term of Mr. Goswami as Home Secretary with immediate effect. He was earlier asked to submit his resignation and he “voluntarily sought retirement from service with immediate affect. The Government of India accepted this by waiving the notice period.
