Delhi will go to polls on February 7

Delhi AssemblyNew Delhi, Jan. 12: Election Commission of India today announced the election schedule for the Delhi Assembly. The polling will be held for all the seventy Assembly constituencies on February 7 and counting of votes will be on February 10.

Before the model code of conduct is in place, the BJP led Government at the Centre has announced a salary hike for Delhi government employees. Only the other day, the Union Cabinet had approved the regularization of all illegal colonies in Delhi–a decision that is going to benefit approximately 60 lakh people. Both these acts have come under sharp criticism. The Aam Aadmi Party, which is a front runner and is going to pose a major challenge to the BJP in the Delhi Assembly election, has blasted the BJP on this count.

The Delhi Assembly election will be notified on January 14, the last date for filing nominations will be January 21, date of scrutiny of forms will be January 22, the last date for withdrawal of nominations will be January 24. The deadline to conclude the election process is February 12.
